  • When trying to scan, only thing I get is a gradient image

PC is not communicating properly with the confocal device. Restart the controller box (left). Restart the PC

  • Which format should I use to save my images?

Always use the proprietary formats CZI or LSM5. Any other format might result in loss of metadata and/or image data.

  • How to open my confocal images in third party software?

ImageJ will read LSM format directly. To open CZI files, you’ll have to install the Bioformat package available here.

Problems history

  • Currently Out of Order, history as follows:
    • 11/07 the Argon laser fails
    • 11/09 an new laser has been ordered
    • 11/16 new laser received
    • 11/30 Zeiss services the laser. Everything works
    • 12/04 Power supply failure
    • 12/04 New power supply ordered
    • 12/12 New Power supply received, laser still doesn’t start
    • 12/13 New power supply + laser combo ordered
    • 12/13 Info from Zeiss: earliest possible service on 2018/01/10
    • 2018/01/09 Argon laser and power supply replaced
    • 01/09 remaining issue: bad rotation of the objective turret
