Rules and tips for using the seeds library

Collect ripe, good quality seeds from healthy plants.

  • Do not bag the plants too early, when the plant is still green.
  • Check the absence of parasites.
  • Sieve the seeds to remove all plant residues.
  • Treatment at -20°C for 48 hours to eliminate parasites.
  • Test freshly harvested seeds to confirm viability and note germination rate.

Avoid anaerobic conditions during storage.

  • Use the specific bags for the seeds library, small brown kraft paper bags. They allow air and humidity to pass through.
  • Use the storage means provided to preserve your seeds (small paper bags arranged in cardboard boxes, and stored in large plastic crates). A large box will hold about 1400 seed packets. Initially one box will be allocated per research team. You have padlocks at your disposal if you wish to lock your plastic crate (duplicate keys are your responsibility).

Access One person per team has access to the seeds library in addition to the team leader.

You can check, thanks to the display above the door, that the temperature (12°C) and hygrometry (between 20% and 30%) are correctly regulated and warn the service in case of problems.
